Denise Dee Knapp

Denise Dee Knapp, Esq. has over twenty-eight years of dispute resolution experience including litigation, mediation, teaching, and designing dispute resolution and conflict management approaches. Ms. Knapp has particular expertise in resolving workplace, EEO and discrimination complaints, family business disagreements and consensus-based public/government policy disputes. She serves on mediation panels for the U.S. Postal Service, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the American Arbitration Association and the Western Washington Federal District Court Rule 39.1 panel.

Ms. Knapp has custom designed and facilitated numerous interactive interventions and trainings in a variety of contexts. Her clients represent a diverse group from industry, government, and non-profit organizations.

As a mediator Ms. Knapp has improved morale and productivity by empowering workers to resolve their workplace disputes. As a coach, she has helped leaders to resolve sensitive issues with their superiors and direct reports, manage their staff, improve morale and productivity, and respond effectively to critical performance issues. Ms. Knapp has facilitated a consensus approach with many large and conflicted groups, building effective and productive teams able to resolve future disputes and collaborate on their own. She has assisted multi-lateral leadership teams to reach consensus on highly technical issues that included public involvement.

Ms. Knapp currently directs the Seattle University Law School’s Mediation Clinic and coordinates four 40 hour Basic Mediation Trainings a year for the Dispute Resolution Center of King County. She is presently a part time visiting professor at Seattle University School of Law where she teaches Mediation, Mediation Advocacy, and Collaborative Law. She has also conducted dozens of workshops on mediation, conflict management, and leadership topics.

Ms. Knapp received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Washington School of Law. She has a double degree in Sociology and Psychology from the University of Colorado where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa.

Ms. Knapp is a member of: Washington Mediation Association, Association for Conflict Resolution, Washington State Bar Association, the ADR Committee of the Washington State Bar Association and the Labor and Employment Section of the King County Bar Association. She has served on the NW ADR Conference Planning Committee and the Pacific Coast Labor and Employment Law Conference Planning Committee and as a research assistant to Kathy Ryan for the book “Extraordinary Teams”.
